Exploring, Discovering, Learning and Growth.
A retreat is simply time away from normal activities where we get space to be, to think, to explore and to grow as individuals and as a community. We see this as an important aspect of St Columba, to invite people who do not normally get to experience a break from the business of life.
Today’s society seems to be in constant flux, leading to increased levels of busyness and anxiety. We feel it is important to take time away to pause, breath and reflect as a means to ground ourselves in deeper truths and to provide opportunities to explore in greater depth some of the themes of the twelve steps and our journey. We also run various retreat days, based on the Genesis, as it provides a local quiet space and is accessible to all.
Building stronger relationships – using the Enneagram
The Enneagram is a tool to aid us with our own self-awareness. This awareness offers a path for us to open our hearts, learn to accept who we are and to have greater compassion for others. This understanding can help us build stronger more compassionate relationships.
Following 18 months of lockdown, we are aware of the negative effect it has had on the mental health of many young people. We are privileged to be taking a group of young people from the local area away to Rydal Water in the Lake District for a retreat in October to get out into the countryside and create a safe space to talk about life. “After going on a men’s retreat, I asked my wife for forgiveness. And I will start to forgive and learn how to lead with love and giving, control my anger and frustrations about things I cannot change”. G.J

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom”. – Victor Frankl
